The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
